When approaching the base of the sheeted dike unit several observations can be made in many sections of the Oman ophiolite. The foliation becomes progressively weaker and, commonly, very difficult to pick up in the field, thus explaining why such gabbros have been described as 'isotropic' or 'massive'. Some vague layering, often anorthositic, can be observed, parallel to the foliation. - Structurally, the foliation tends to become parallel to the dikes of the sheeted dike unit in the root zone of this unit.
