The geomembrane parameters influencing the welding conditions are its compounding (specific gravity, carbon black content and melt index), its thickness, its surface neatness (presence of greases, water or soil particles) and the seam width.

5 Ultrasonic technique The ultrasonic technique is a welding method introduced recently on the market. Polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride can be melted using ultrasonic waves. Under resonnance, a metallic horn in contact with a geomembrane can produced enough energy by friction to melt the polymer. Upon the vibration frequency of the horn, usually between 20 to 40 KHz, the interface of a sheet can be melted.
