This was driven in large part by record company reissues of early jazz classics by the Oliver, Morton, and Armstrong bands of the 1930s. The songs in this collection of previously unrecorded works draw on a variety of influences, including Negro spirituals and gospels, jazz and blues, and modern musical materials such as abstract forms and atonalism.
